Campaign Life Coalition, Canada's national pro-life lobby group, sent a questionnaire to all current Canadian Alliance leadership candidates. We have received responses from Stockwell Day and Dr. Grant Hill. We express disappointment with the response from Dr. Hill, an MP who has always been considered strongly pro-life, but who has failed to impart this in his survey answers. The responses to the questionnaire are posted on our website at http://www.lifesite.net/clc/elections/allianceleadership2002/index.html All four candidates profess to be personally pro-life, but as a political lobby group, CLC's primary concern is with their political commitment to the abortion and euthanasia issues. None of the four candidates have indicated a willingness to initiate a legislative process to restrict or criminalize abortion. "In the context of Canadian Alliance policy, Campaign Life Coalition at the very least wants assurances that if others launch initiatives to restrict or criminalize abortion (e.g. a referendum or 'citizen's initiative'), the candidate would not be involved in backroom manoeuvring to kill the process," says CLC public affairs director Karen Murawsky. "From Mr. Day and Dr. Hill we have that assurance in writing." We strongly encourage all Canadian Alliance members to make the life issues their priority when voting for the party leader in March. Call us for a copy of the questionnaire answers or see them on our website. For more information, call:
