Why is LifeSite Covering This Issue?
There are many faithful, courageous priests and religious that have been outstanding in their support for life and family. Some of these have also been chaste homosexuals who managed to heroically honour their vows. The scandals take nothing away from all these faithful church servants. In many cases they have endured persecution both from within and without the church.
This issue is in many ways directly related to the work of the pro-life and pro-family movements in North America.
It concerns:
- Sexual morality
- The most prominent
and important teachers of sexual morality and virtue.
- A likely explanation
for much of the bewildering and disheartening hostility, disinterest,
inconsistent support and sometimes even betrayal from Catholic religious
leaders that has been experienced by many pro-life, pro-family organizations
and leaders
- The Catholic
Church in the US, Canada and Europe upon which the pro-life, pro-family
movements so heavily depend for support and encouragement within the
corrupted cultures of the liberal dominated western world.
- More than just
the Catholic Church, as most denominations, and the culture in general
have been infected with moral corruption.
- A likely explanation
for the introduction and defence of immoral sex-education and AIDS
programs into Catholic schools by many dioceses.
- A very likely
explanation for the weak, ineffective efforts of many bishops to act
and speak against legislative proposals and court actions giving special
rights and protection to homosexuality.
- A situation that
has grown into a vastly deeper corruption than hardly any of the public
has been aware of or could have imagined. This development has been
accelerated by the persistent refusal of many individuals, bishops
and laymen, to act responsibly on information they became aware of.
Silence and weak efforts to supposedly avoid public scandal have instead
created this far greater scandal and crippling of efforts to defend
life and the family.
- Corruption that can best be fought by faithful lay people who persistently demand that their spiritual leaders return to the job of being faithful spiritual and moral shepherds.
