LettersMcKellar IThe article regarding John McKellar (Aug. 1999) was just too much for me. This kind of journalism is too graphic, and it is unnecessary. I know that homosexual activity is a sin. I do not need to read about the shameful things that go on in a gay bathhouse. I couldn't even finish reading the article. Luckily I got the paper before the rest of the family had a chance to read it and was able to quickly dispose of it into the recycle bin. Please cancel my subscription. Name and city withheld McKellar IIRegarding "A modern-day John the Baptist" by Bill Whatcott (Interim, Aug. 1999), I'd like to salute Bill for his frank discussion of the deep pit which the homosexual lifestyle is. I'm sure John McKellar's obvious bitterness over what that lifestyle has cost him was somewhat assuaged by Bill's concern for those caught in it. Did some deem the Interim's image sullied by a glimpse into the bathhouse mentality? I see a parallel here with the abortion exposé. Too often our sensibilities are offended by pictures of mutilated baby bodies, lurid descriptions of abortion procedures, and gut-wrenching documentaries of women whose health has been permanently damaged by abortion. Is not the purpose of The Interim to educate and equip us with the accurate information to compassionately counsel those considering having an abortion or entering the homosexual lifestyle and to solace those who have been hurt by these things? Let us focus on their suffering, not our comfort level. Are we listening to John McKellar's cry from the wilderness? Linda Gibbons
Vanier Correctional Centre for Women McKellar IIIMy friend Bill Whatcott has been writing articles for The Interim on various topics over the last few years: his own pro-life work for Show the Truth, his trip to Mexico, and in the August issue, an interview with John McKellar, founder of Homosexuals Opposed to Pride Extremism. This latest article was extremely interesting and in parts disturbing, telling us more about bathhouse activities than we probably want to know. But Christians need to know these things to effectively witness to society that homosexual sex, like heterosexual sex outside of marriage between man and woman, is a sin. Properly there was a warning heading the article for young people. Bill Whatcott will be moving his newly enlarged family to Regina in a month's time. I shall miss him and his articles, although I expect to remain in touch with him, and hopefully I will continue to see his articles published in The Interim. Paul Vandervet McKellar himselfTo the squeamish handful, whose faces are, no doubt, permanently creased from a lifetime of ostentatious piety and outrage, I would suggest that you take a peek at the corruptive vulgarity that finds its way into the classrooms of our children under the guise of "tolerance, compassion and enlightenment." Or, if you feel particularly intrepid and have an ample supply of smelling salts, you might hunker down with a copy of Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth and absorb Dr. Satinover's hard hitting and explicit analysis of the physical and psychological traumas associated with frequent participation in anal sex. Then look in the mirror and congratulate the sanctimonious face staring back at you for so easily allowing the homosexual lobby to impose its agenda upon the social and cultural fabric of our nation. While you're having an infantile hissy-fit over the language and presentation of exposés of the gay lifestyle, Canada's institutions, traditions and values are being eroded and all manner of lifestyles and behaviours are being mainstreamed and legitimatized. Thanks for nothing. On the other hand, it's helpful to separate those who have the courage and conviction to be on the front lines in the war against the subversive counterculture from the Sunday-morning "saints" who sit in their pretentious pews, cultivate their precious reputations, then go home and close the curtains. John McKellar Homosexuals Opposed to Pride ‘Choice' is non-debatableI was amused to read that Ted Gerk ("Musings about ‘pro-choice,'" Aug. 1999) has been spending his time doing promotional work for the Pro-Choice Action Network. He claims he forwarded to the media and BC's MLAs, copies of my web page article about why pro-choice supporters don't debate the anti-choice. I removed the article from my personal web site out of respect for our steering committee's plan to publish an official non-debate policy. In the end, we simply adopted a more concise version of my original draft, with the main points intact. The document is posted at www.prochoiceconnection.com/pro-can/99summer.html#debate.
