UN CHILDREN'S AGENCY ADVOCATES KILLING CHILDREN IN THE WOMB
NEW YORK, Sept 11 (LSN) - Yesterday the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) issued a new report called The Progress of Nations 1998 in which the organization supposedly geared to the best interests of children advocates killing them in the womb. The report does cover some authentic improvements for the welfare of children around the world, but one very disturbing section on women is preoccupied with the promotion of sex ed, contraception, and reproductive health services (a favourite U.N. euphemism for abortion) for children and youth.
In its section on women the report says, "In 1994, the international community acknowledged young people's reproductive health rights in the Programme of Action at the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo." It continues by complaining that " young people, girls in particular, have been denied their rights and society has not paid attention to their needs."
Despite the overwhelming and explicit evidence to the contrary, the UN insists that "sex education delays young people's sexual initiation or reduces the number of partners." Apparently the UN does not recognize the link between the increased "need" for reproductive health services and the sex education industry: the report also insisted that "information is not enough. Young people need services, especially youth- friendly health services."

Back to Top TORONTO CROWN ATTORNEY INSTRUCTS POLICE TO LAY FALSE CHARGES AGAINST PRO-LIFERS
TORONTO, Sept 11 (LSN) - Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) today reported that "Crown Attorney Paul Culver instructed Toronto police, who arrested pro-life protesters September 9, to not charge them with 'disobeying a court order'". The protesters were expecting that charge so that they could finally challenge in court the unconstitutional injunction that prohibits protests at Toronto's abortuaries. Linda Gibbons, Rev. Ken Campbell and Annaliese Stedan were arrested on Wednesday for peacefully protesting outside Toronto's Scott abortion mill. They were eventually charged with "obstructing a peace officer".
CLC is trying to draw attention to a "serious abuse of legal process" in this situation. It noted that Wednesday's charge "was in direct contradiction to the July 15, 1998 judgement by Judge Milton Cadsby in which the charge of "obstructing a peace officer" was dismissed against Rev. Ken Campbell for a previous identical action at the clinic." The judge stated that there was no basis for laying such a charge against Rev. Campbell.
The judge questioned the legitimacy of the injunction, noting that, as a four-year-old "temporary" measure it was about time that it was re-examined. His comments indicated that "disobeying a court order" would be the only appropriate charge for any similar future incidents.
Rev. Campbell has been released while Linda Gibbons and Annaliese Steden are still imprisoned since they are refusing to co-operate with release requirements.
The unjust injunction barring peaceful and prayerful sidewalk counselling and pro-life witness, was engineered by the NDP government and is being carefully and consciously maintained by the provincial Tories despite numerous requests to drop it.
Attorney General Charles Harnick has also "stifled all attempts to quash the five-year-old NDP Court case against eighteen pro-lifers," says CLC. "This situation is a serious abuse of legal process in which the Toronto police and the Ontario Attorney General appear to be directed by abortion clinic staff to by-pass normal legal process to avoid any interference with clinic abortion activity," charged the political wing of Canada's pro-life movement in a press release issued today.
ILLINOIS CATHOLIC BISHOPS LOBBY PRO-ABORTION SENATORS
CHICAGO, Sept 11 (LSN) - In a strongly worded letter, the six bishops who preside over the Catholic dioceses of Illinois urged pro-abortion U.S. Senators Carol Moseley-Braun and Richard Durbin to vote to override President Clinton's veto of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act on September 18. "We refuse to believe that you cannot see partial-birth abortion as the unfathomable and gruesome act of infanticide that it is," said the letter.
PRNewswire noted that the bishops praised past humanitarian efforts by the senators but added that "a shadow is cast over these good works, when simultaneously, (a vote is cast) to allow the smallest and most defenseless members of our human family to be killed in a barbaric, inhumane manner." "Because you know, we know, and the people of Illinois know that children in the process of being born are children who deserve to be protected, we implore you to reconsider your position and vote to override the presidential veto."
The letter was signed by Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago; Most Rev. Joseph L. Imesch, Bishop of Joliet; Most Rev. John J. Myers; Bishop of Peoria; Most Rev. Wilton D. Gregory, Bishop of Belleville; Most Rev. Daniel J. Ryan, Bishop of Springfield; and Most Rev. Thomas G. Doran, Bishop of Rockford.
FORMER KEVORKIAN LAWYER A DISADVANTAGE TO OTHER DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES
LANSING, Mich., Sept 11 (LSN) - The Associated Press reported today that former Kevorkian lawyer Geoffrey Fieger threatens the success of neighbouring Democratic campaigns. In August Fieger, notorious for his derogatory attacks and personal slurs against all who oppose assisted suicide, won Michigan's Democratic gubernatorial primary pitting him against the incumbent Republican Governor John Engler who opposes assisted suicide.
Steve Mitchell of Mitchell Research & Communications in East Lansing told Associated Press that "Geoff Fieger is not an albatross around neck of Democrats, he's an anchor, and he's going to bring down Democrats." However, Democratic big-wigs remain steadfastly behind their extremist candidate. State Democratic Chairman Mark Brewer said "The evidence is great that he really excites the base of the Democratic Party Geoff conveys the image of being much more of a fighter."
Ralph Reed of Century Strategies in Atlanta noted that "The Democrats can distance themselves from him nationally and in Michigan and probably prevent a meltdown, but only if they publicly repudiate him and his views." "I don't think there's any doubt that he is going to be a drag on the ticket in Michigan."
