ATTACKS AGAINST PARTY LEADER'S CHRISTIANITY CONTINUE
All main parties join in on unprecedented assault on Stockwell Day's personal beliefs
OTTAWA, Nov 17 (LSN.ca) - The fact that Canada's national television broadcaster, the CBC, attacked the evangelical Christian beliefs of Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day has yet to be publicly perceived as scandalous. In fact, the attacks have continued as members of the opposing parties have added their ridicule of Mr. Day's belief in the Biblical account of creation.

A CANADIAN CATHOLIC VOTER'S CATECHISM - VOTE PRO-LIFE
Vancouver's Archbishop Adam Exner Clarifies the Issues for Catholics
VANCOUVER, Nov 17 (LSN.ca) - The Office of Life and Family Archdiocese of Vancouver has today released "A Canadian Catholic Voter's Catechism" which notes that "the right to life is the most important issue in deciding" one's vote. The Catechism, laid out in classical question and answer format, was compiled under the authority of Archbishop Adam Exner. It explains that "The most basic of all our rights is the right to life - the right from which all other rights flow. Without life, no other right can be enjoyed. Any threat to the right to life, then, is a threat to all our rights." The Voter's Catechism also notes that another important consideration for voting is the "status of marriage and family."
"First, we must vote for candidates and parties that uphold the right to life for all Canadians and for all human beings everywhere," says the Voter's Catechism. "Second, we must vote for candidates and parties who recognize that a family is 'a man and a woman united in marriage, together with their children'; who will enact policies that recognize that children are the responsibility and duty first and foremost of their parents and not of the state; and who will enact policies that assist and do not hamper parents in raising their children."
The document also suggests, "If no candidate upholds the right to life and the rights of the family," then "We can vote for the candidate who is the least hostile to the right to life and to the family."

PC PARTY LEADER CLARK FLOGGING HIS PRO-ABORTION POSITION
CALGARY, Nov 17 (LSN.ca) - Progressive Conservative Party Leader Joe Clark is making abortion a centrepiece of his campaign. For the second time in a week Clark is quoted in the press as touting himself as the hero of women for being pro-abortion. In Toronto at a gathering of 200 women, Clark was introduced by his pro-abortion activist wife Maureen McTeer. Clark was quoted by the Canadian Press as saying, "This election is important for many reasons: . . . it will determine whether we keep our right to choose our reproductive options or whether contraception and abortion will be re-criminalized."
Last Sunday, Clark made comments implying that only men are concerned with the right to life of the unborn and that he would not even tolerate a referendum on the issue. The Toronto Star reported that after saying that he unequivocally supports a "woman's right to choose", he said, "It is simply unacceptable that there should be a suggestion that . . . 500,000 men in the country could force a referendum on a woman's right to choose."

BRITISH COUPLE WINS LAWSUIT OVER MULTIPLE BIRTHS FROM IN VITRO
LONDON, Nov 17 (LSN.ca) - A British couple has successfully sued a fertility centre in England for having implanted three embryos when the couple only contracted for two children. The couple refused to have an abortion and healthy triplets were born. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children in the UK reported that Patricia and Peter Thompson yesterday won their case seeking compensation equivalent to the costs of bringing up the third child. During the hearing it was revealed that Mrs Thompson was the only one of 254 patients who actually gave birth to triplets as a result of having three embryos implanted. Paul Tully, general secretary of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, pointed out that "in many of the other cases, one of the implanted embryos was presumably selected for abortion", a fact which demonstrates "the disturbing commodification of human life which characterizes in vitro fertilization treatment in Britain today".

LIFESITE NEWSBYTES
The All Party Committee report looking at abortion in Ireland was published yesterday. SPUC reports that the 700 page document outlines three options. The first option, favoured by the Fine Gael party, would be to retain the current constitutional and legal situation. The second option, favoured by the Labour party, would be to introduce legislation with the effect of protecting current medical practice [abortions to save the life of the woman] and underpinning the situation since the Supreme Court's 1992 X-case decision [whereby abortions were allowed when the mother was considered to be at risk of suicide]. The third option, favoured by Fianna Fáil, would be to use legislation and a referendum to protect current legal practice and to overturn the X-case judgement. The criminality of abortion would be reaffirmed, even in cases of threatened suicide. The report will now be considered by a cabinet sub-committee.

Four American women who survived abortion attempts by their mothers tell their stories in a new book, whose focus is on reconciliation, not resentment. Zenit News reports that "Yo Sobreviví a un Aborto" ("I Survived Abortion") is the title of the Spanish-language work published by Planeta-Testimonio. Written by Alejandro Bermúdez, journalist and director of the Catholic Information Agency for Latin America, or ACI Prensa, it records the testimony of the four who came out victorious from a battle against death in their mother's womb.
