LIFE SAVED DURING DEMONSTRATION OUTSIDE TORONTO ABORTUARY
Linda Gibbons and Rosemary Connell Arrested by Toronto Police
TORONTO, Oct. 18 (LSN.ca) - Toronto police acted with more restraint this time as no journalists were arrested when Linda Gibbons conducted the latest of her counselling efforts outside the Scott abortuary this morning. A life seems to have been saved in the process.
A couple standing on the steps of the abortuary and ringing the doorbell was distracted enough by the activities on the sidewalk to shift their attention to a nearby pro-life counsellor asking to speak to them. The couple came down, was counselled and given literature was last seen walking down the street and stepping onto a city bus away from the area.
Earlier, Gibbons and four others picketed in front of the abortuary before two sheriffs and several police arrived. Gibbons and Rosemary Connell were arrested and taken away in a police cruiser.
The sheriff exceeded his authority by asking a LifeSite reporter photographing the events to leave the area because, as the sheriff claimed, nothing was going on. The journalist left but was not in any way violating the injunction in place at the abortuary or interfering with police activities. The journalist was directly and clearly asked to leave, unlike the situation on Oct. 1999 when journalists were arrested and charged without warning. Charges against them were dropped.
