ALLIANCE LEADERSHIP CANDIDATE GRANT HILL CONFIRMS PRO-LIFE CONVICTIONS

GANANOQUE, January 15, 2002 (LSN.ca) - On January 12, Canadian Alliance leadership candidate Dr. Grant Hill spoke at a restaurant in Gananoque, Ontario. Dr. Hill fielded questions from the floor several of which dealt with life issues.

In answer to one question dealing with abortion, Dr. Hill spoke about the reproductive technology bill currently before the House of Commons. He noted, "in that context, we have the fetus, the embryo, talked about as being very, very special - very, very protected. When it's outside the woman's body in a test tube, it's suddenly very valuable? Well you convince me that if it's very valuable in the test tube, that somehow in the womb it's not very valuable."

Hill also pointed out that he is "one of the few MPs in Canadian history that has an award from a pro-life group for my work on pro-life."

Dr. Hill shared that while campaigning he met a former patient of his who expressed deep gratitude that Dr. Hill had counselled her to consider options other than abortion when she came to him. Dr. Hill recalled the conversation: "You're Dr. Hill aren't you? You practised in High River hospital. You wouldn't remember me, but when I was 16, I came to your office and I was so embarrassed, I had made a mistake and I was pregnant and I came to you and said Dr. Hill, I want to terminate my pregnancy. You weren't unkind to me. You sat me down and said have you thought of the other alternatives to that? This is the result.. 12 now, 12 years of age. Thank you, thank you for talking me out of that decision." The story was followed by a round of applause.
