NUMBER OF HUMAN EMBRYOS AVAILABLE FOR DESTRUCTIVE RESEARCH TALLIED
HALIFAX, November 5, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Scientists who are looking to undertake deadly experimentation on live human embryos are about to find out how many such tiny human beings would be at their disposal. Josephine Johnston, a research associate with the department of bioethics at Dalhousie University is leading a project to survey Canada's 24 fertility clinics to determine the number of frozen embryos which could be handed over to scientists.
Johnston says the researchers will inform the federal government of the number of embryos that will be available for 'research.' Ottawa is considering legalizing such research while banning the cloning of human embryos. After finding that one clinic in Ottawa had 50 human embryos available, Johnston estimated the total number in Canada at 500.
Despite the fact that adult stem cell supplies are comparatively limitless, the numbers game will likely be exploited to argue for allowing human cloning, which would theoretically limitlessly expand the number of live human embryos for experimentation.
