A team of experts has mapped out a 3,000-part genetic sequence from a single sperm from an apparently healthy, fertile man. The researchers hope the sequence will offer treatments for infertility.

EUROPEAN STEM CELL BANK 'WITHIN A YEAR'
Europe's first stem cell bank, to be based in the U.K., could be up and running within a year. The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) has been awarded a £2.6m contract to set up the bank by Britain's Medical Research Council (MRC).

INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT FORMULA FOR JUDGES APPROVED
Procedures have been approved by the International Criminal Court's Assembly of States Parties for electing the court's 18 judges. They give six of the positions to women, at least three to Africa, Latin America and Western Europe and two to Asia and Eastern Europe. (Jess Bravin, Wall Street Journal, Sept. 6).
WHATCOTT RECEIVES ONE-MONTH SENTENCE FOR CROSSING BORDER
Bill Whatcott was sentenced in Minot, N.D., to one month in jail, with credit for time already served. Police said he was on his way to a religious meeting in Wisconsin.
