NANCY REAGAN LOBBYING FOR HUMAN STEM CELL RESEARCH
Former First Lady Nancy Reagan has been privately lobbying for federal financing for human embryonic stem cell research. The New York Times quotes a friend of Mrs. Reagan saying that she felt President Bush's decision to restrict funding was "hampering" efforts to cure Alzheimer's, which afflicts her husband, former president Ronald Reagan. The Guardian newspaper notes that Nancy Reagan has indicated publicly that she does not believe in abortion but does believe in "a woman's choice." That is, unlike her husband, Mrs. Reagan has been pro-abortion and does not share George W. Bush's respect for the sanctity of human life.
