VANCOUVER SUN EDITORIAL COMES OUT AGAINST PASSAGE OF STEM CELL BILL C-13
VANCOUVER, April 16, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The lead editorial in The Vancouver Sun yesterday came out against the passage of bill C-13, the Assisted Human Reproduction Act. "Law on human cloning shouldn't pass as it stands The government has produced an incoherent piece of legislation, " the piece was headlined.
The statement from the ultra-leftist Sun indicates that the bill may not see passage after-all. The paper notes accurately that the legislation has offended interested parties on both sides of the debate. The paper objects to the legislation's claim to ban human cloning for research and recommends a moratorium on the practice rather than a ban. However, at this third reading stage, such amendments are not possible unless the bill is returned to committee.
Official Opposition Health Critic Rob Merrifield has made a motion for such a move which will receive a vote when the House of Commons reconvenes later this month.
