Ontario's Only Pro-Family Party Slams Eves' Political Opportunism on Homosexual 'Marriage'
TORONTO, August 27, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Ontario Premier Ernie Eves' flip- flop on his 'personal' stand on same-sex 'marriage' is being seen as crass political opportunism by many critics on all sides of the political spectrum. "I have always believed that marriage was a union between two heterosexual people - a male and a female," Eves told reporters yesterday. Yet speaking on homosexual 'marriage' on July 16 last year he said, "My point of view on this issue is that if two people decide that they want to be in a union, why would I interfere with that? That's my personal point of view."
Giuseppe Gori, Leader of the Family Coalition Party of Ontario told LifeSite, Eves current statements are shallow at best. "Despite his new-found faith in traditional marriage, the Conservative Party has no intention of doing anything to protect marriage. They have absolutely no intention of appealing the homosexual 'marriage' decision or using the notwithstanding clause." In fact, Eves confirmed as much yesterday when he admitted to reporters, "I don't think that I have the right to impose my values on other individuals. That's just a personal belief of mine."
Gori recalled that the Conservative Party was in fact responsible for changing 68 pieces of legislation to benefit homosexual couples in 1999. Gori assured LifeSite that the FCP would defend marriage, "The FCP would like to stop judicial activism by any means possible which include appealing the 'marriage' decision and using the notwithstanding clause if necessary."
Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty and NDP Leader Howard Hampton have emphatically proclaimed their parties in support of homosexual 'marriage'. The Ontario Tories have been much quieter about their support for homosexual activist demands but have actually done far more than the other parties to advance that agenda.
