American Medical Association Endorses Cloning

CHICAGO, April 23, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Tuesday the American Medical Association endorsed human cloning for research purposes, claiming that the practice is medically ethical. Policymaking delegates adopted the measure without debate after receiving a proposal from the AMA's Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs.

The AMA stated that doctors who opposed the practice are allowed to refuse to perform it. But, Dr. Michael Goldrich, incoming chairman of the committee that drafted the cloning report, made the Association's position clear saying of the measure "It makes a stance for science."

Dr. John McMahon, echoed the voice of many opposed to the measure calling it "totally inappropriate" because it involves the destruction of a human being.
