U.S. Bishop: "No Injustice is of a Greater Magnitude than the Injustice of Abortion"
WASHINGTON, October 19, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Colorado Springs Bishop Michael J. Sheridan was the homilist at the Mass concluding the International Week of Prayer and Fasting October 11. The Mass and concluding prayer vigil were held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.
The International Week of Prayer and Fasting's three goals of the conversion of nations, an end to abortion, and world peace "are all intimately connected and related to the others", pointed out Bishop Sheridan. There will be "no true and lasting peace in the world unless justice prevails. No injustice is of a greater magnitude than the injustice of abortion", said the Bishop as he shared the history of the civil rights movement from slavery to the present and drew a correlation to the current plight of abortion.
He reminded those in attendance of the words of President Lincoln that "the law cannot give mankind the right to do what is morally wrong". More than a million babies have died each year in America since Roe vs. Wade, creating terribly violent times, "leading to a new kind of violence that shocks even the most hardened, that being the frequency with which children kill other children."
