CFAC Urges Canadians of Faith to Pray for a Victory for George W. Bush

CALGARY, October 29, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Canada Family Action Coalition Executive Director, Brian Rushfeldt, is urging all Canadians of faith to pray for the re-election of US President George W. Bush.

"As neighbours of the United States, Canada is significantly influenced by everything that happens in that nation," Rushfeldt says, in an urgent prayer action alert sent out Thursday. "We are also greatly impacted by the direction they go, especially in the political realm."

CFAC is issuing a call to pray for the November 2nd election in the US's northern neighbouring nation. "The two leading presidential candidates have very divergent views on these issues," Rushfeldt explains. "I would suggest that as a neighbour we would pray for a president who refuses to further liberalize laws and socially engineer society."

Rushfeldt refers to several key issues that would be in jeopardy in the US with John F. Kerry as President: the definition of marriage; stem cell research; freedom of religion, speech and conscience; national autonomy; and judicial fairness.

Rushfeldt warns of the risks to US national sovereignty of a Kerry presidency: ". . . Mr. Kerry supports giving the United Nations authority and supports the use of the world court. Representatives of the United Nations are neither elected nor accountable, which is a significant threat to democracy and to individual freedoms and national sovereignty. The World Court is basically self-appointed."

Rushfeldt points out the damaging effect a Kerry presidency would have on the US judicial system: ". . . judicial appointments made by the next President will result in either more liberal or more conservative rulings."

"We are encouraged to hear of the large number of American churches and ministries calling their people to fast and pray," Rushfeldt continues. "These spiritual leaders understand the significance of choosing leaders who will stand for moral righteousness, justice, and democratic freedoms. Let us show our love for our neighbours by joining with them in prayer to raise up leaders who will do good and not evil."

Rushfeldt suggests Sunday, October 31, as a time for church pastors to lead their congregations in intercession for the US election, as well as for continued prayer on election day, November 2.
