Canadian Prime Minister Martin May Well Lose His Seat in Parliament Says CTV Pollster
By John-Henry Westen
OTTAWA, December 21, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin may lose his own seat in parliament according to new polling from his home province of Quebec. Martin, who is the MP for the Quebec riding of LaSalle-Emard in Montreal, despite his arrogance on television debates, may lose his seat to the Bloc Quebecois separatist party which has gained popularity in Quebec.
A new poll was conducted from December 17-19 by The Strategic Counsel for CTV and the Globe and Mail. The poll found that only 20% of Quebec residents will vote Liberal with a whopping 60% saying they will vote for the Bloc.
Tim Woolstencroft, managing partner with The Strategic Counsel, told CTV.ca "With the current numbers that they are polling in Quebec, the Liberals would be reduced to seven seats and this number would not include Mr. Martin's own seat. Right now, there's a risk that the PM might lose his own seat."
While the English-speaking sections of Montreal have usually been considered safe seats for the Liberals, the Strategic Counsel's most recent polling has found that even in Montreal the Bloc will garner nearly twice the votes of the Liberals.
