Canadian Bishop Warns State Must Proscribe or Curtail Homosexuality, Adultery, Prostitution and Pornography
Says this must be done "in the interests of the common good"
CALGARY, January 13, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In what is likely to be the most effective, and strongest letter ever issued by a Canadian Bishop in defence of traditional marriage, Calgary's Bishop Fred Henry is to release a pastoral letter this weekend which cuts to the heart of the debate.
Bishop Henry, who recently courageously stood up to threats by Revenue Canada agents over his pre-election comments about the Prime Minister's moral incoherence on abortion and same-sex unions, writes: "Since homosexuality, adultery, prostitution and pornography undermine the foundations of the family, the basis of society, then the State must use its coercive power to proscribe or curtail them in the interests of the common good."
The pastoral letter begins by emphasizing that the fight to preserve marriage in Canada is far from over. The bishop points out that Canada's Supreme Court justices did not say that Parliament "must redefine marriage to include same-sex couples." However, Bishop Henry also castigates the Court justices and all others who use the Constitution's Charter of Rights and Freedoms as their authority to justify the imposition of radical social changes on the nation.
Rather than shy away from the issue of homosexuality,(as have most other Christian leaders in the country), which is central to the debate, Bishop Henry confronts it without fear.
He teaches, with the authority of a Catholic shepherd, "Simply stated, a same sex union is not marriage. The idea that homosexuals can create same sex 'marriage' through their individual choice is false. All the packaging in the world doesn't alter substance".
The Calgary Bishop frankly explains that gay activists are using the marriage redefinition law to force acceptance of homosexuality on Canadian society. "Contrary to what is normally alleged,” he writes, “the primary goals in seeking legalization of same-sex 'marriage' are not the financial or health or inheritance or pension benefits associated with marriage," not "stability and exclusivity," not even "equality rights." Concluding, "The goal is to acquire a powerful psychological weapon to change society's rejection of homosexual activity and lifestyle into gradual, even if reluctant, acceptance."
Proving his point he notes that "18 months after same-sex 'marriage' arrived in Canada, more than 95% of adult Canadian gays have chosen to ignore their new legal right."
Bishop Henry emphasizes "It is the right and the responsibility of all citizens who are troubled by the proposal to reinvent the institution of marriage" to act on the issue. He states, "The denial of the social and legal status of marriage to same-sex couples is not discrimination. It is not something opposed to justice; on the contrary, justice requires such an opposition.”
He concludes the letter by encouraging Canadians to contact their members of parliament with a view to "registering your objection to the proposal to reinvent the institution of marriage."

Toronto Catholic School Board Hires Homosexual Activist PR Firm to Recruit Students
TORONTO, January 13, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Toronto Catholic District School Board has launched a $750,000 advertising campaign to recruit new students – utilizing the services of a homosexual activist public relations firm. The Toronto Star reports that trustee Maria Rizzo has slammed the expense as “a misadventure that will squander almost a million dollars while our schools are falling apart.”
The CEO of the PR firm, Navigator Ltd, is the very controversial Jaime Watt. Watt was a key member of former Progressive Conservative (PC) Premier Mike Harris’s original election strategy team. After the PC’s June 1995 election success Watt became a member of the Premier’s influential inner circle of “whiz kids”. He was forced to resign when it was discovered he had been convicted of criminal fraud over $19,000.
Watt, a self-proclaimed homosexual, is a prominent gay activist and no friend of pro-lifers. As co-chair of the Canadian Human Rights Committee in 1997 he travelled to Ottawa to lobby MPs for increased "equality" rights for homosexuals.
In 2000, Watt convinced Premier Harris to opt out of “using the notwithstanding clause to challenge a Supreme Court of Canada decision that said the opposite-sex definition of spouse in the province's Family Law Act is unconstitutional,” according to Toronto NOW magazine writer Scott Anderson. Anderson also credits Watt with being a key figure in the democracy trashing, one day passage of the Ontario homosexual rights bill, C5, witnessed by Watt and friends from the legislature’s public gallery.
Stewart Braddick, another self-proclaimed homosexual in the Long leadership campaign, is Jaime's business partner. He was former senior consultant to Mike Harris at the time of the passage of the gay rights omnibus bill.
Warren Kinsella, another top executive at Navigator, was the brains behind the public attack of former Canadian Alliance leader Stockwell Day’s evangelical views, including those on creation, by mocking them. Kinsella appeared on CTV news, holding a Barney the dinosaur plush toy, saying: "This is the only dinosaur that recently co-existed with humans."

UN Launches Condom Cartoons
NEW YORK, January 13, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The United Nations has launched a series of cartoons containing condoms as the main characters. “The Three Amigos” condom characters promote the so-called safe-sex message that condoms prevent HIV/AIDS.
The UN describes the campaign as the "start of the world's largest integrated behaviour modification program," according to a WorldNetDaily report.
The feature presents the characters, Shaft, Stretch and Dick, in a variety of settings. Canadian producer-director Firdaus Kharas said, “We're using humor to stop the spread of AIDS.”
The television advertisement is already playing in the Netherlands, South Africa, and Canada, and has received accolades including four international festival selections, and 25 international awards.

Kansas Abortion Clinic Used by Canadian Governments Sends Botched Abortion Victim to Hospital
WICHITA, Kansas, January 13, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - With sirens blaring and emergency lights flashing, an ambulance rushed an injured woman to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS at approximately 9:30 am today, after an apparent botched abortion at Women's Health Care Services, a late-term abortion mill run by the notorious George Tiller. LifeSiteNews.com reported in September that, at taxpayer expense, health authorities in Quebec and other Canadian provinces send Canadian women seeking late-term abortions to the same center.
"They almost caused an accident at the intersection," said witness Brenna Sullenger, who filmed the arrival of the ambulance at Wesley. "They were in a big hurry."
First to arrive at the hospital was Tiller employee Edna Roach, a nurse's assistant who often escorts injured women to the hospital from the mill. She was observed to carry medical files into the Emergency Room in an apparent effort to expedite the intake process.
The ambulance arrived a few moments later. Another witness Cheryl Sullenger noted, "As I pulled into the hospital parking lot, the EMTs were unloading the woman from the ambulance. I drove right past them and they appeared very grim and in a very big rush to get the woman inside. She was covered with a blanket."
Tiller arrived a few minutes later in his armored Jeep, driven by another employee, Sara Phares. Pro-lifers on the scene asked Tiller, "How many more women have to be injured before you stop, George?"
Meanwhile, back at the abortion mill, pro-life witnesses observed one of Tiller's security guards expelling a Kansas City News reporter from the abortuary’s parking lot in an effort to institute a media blackout of the story.
"We are here to uncover and report the truth: Babies are dying and women are being maimed. As we near the 32nd memorial of Roe v. Wade, we must ask ourselves how much more human tragedy must we endure before we will take action to stop abortion now,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

Celebrated Canadian Conservative Shocks Allies With Acceptance of Gay ‘Marriage’ If Referendum Mandates It
Much of Canadian ‘Conservatism’ Nothing More than Libertarianism
EDMONTON, January 13, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Link Byfield, in an article posted to the website of the Citizens Centre for Freedom and Democracy, of which he is chairman, has revealed the Achilles' heel of much of the Canadian version of conservatism: it is not conservatism, but libertarianism.
In an editorial column appearing Christmas Eve in the Calgary Sun, Byfield said that if he were to be given a vote, he would “probably” vote against homosexual “marriage.” He writes that he “respects opposing views” on making sodomy equivalent to marriage. He wrote, “What I find hard to respect is the idea that people should not be allowed to decide this issue democratically. And this is not a matter of liberal versus conservative. It's democracy versus dictatorship.”
Byfield started his article by accepting the gay activists’ strategic framing of the issue as one of ‘minority rights.’ He writes, “In fact, in Canada and elsewhere, all significant minority rights--from women’s right to vote, to the gays’ right to have sex, to the institution of human rights commissions--were bestowed by democratic majorities who saw wisdom in the proposals.” Byfield's suggestion that women’s suffrage and sodomy are on a moral par demonstrates the divergence of his position from true conservatives. The notion that civil law confers natural rights, that a moral evil can become a right if it is legalized, is characteristic not of conservatism, but of classic libertarianism.
Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition said to LifeSiteNews.com, “There’s one problem with this idea, what if the people choose something immoral? What if we had a referendum and the people chose to adopt a coercive one-child policy like China’s? What if they chose to introduce slavery or public stoning?”
“This is the problem in a nutshell with the Canadian version of conservatism, it is trying to divorce itself from traditional morality. But it can’t.” Hughes continued, “I wonder what else could be made into a right? How about child prostitution? Child pornography is very nearly a right in Canada already. Once the media have helped people to accept these things, maybe we should have a referendum on them and make them into constitutionally protected rights.”
“Morality isn’t decided by consensus and a civil law that is not in accord with the moral law is a bad law, no matter how many people vote for it in a referendum.” Hughes said.
