Ontario Catholic School Pulls out of Multiple Sclerosis Society Fundraiser
GLENCOE, Ontario, January 20, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A school in the London Catholic School system, after receiving letters from concerned parents, has agreed not to participate in a fundraising campaign for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. The MS Society, along with most other disease research advocacy groups, has fully accepted the use of living embryonic human beings as test subjects in research.
The principal of the school, St. Charles in Glencoe, Ontario, called the Schadenbergs immediately upon receipt of Susan Schadenberg’s letter. Gabe Pizzuti said that the school had no idea that the MS Society supported embryonic stem cell research. The school will now be encouraging the students to engage in a read-a-thon to raise funds for the school library.
Alex Schadenberg told LifeSiteNews.com that it is unlikely that many Catholic schools in Ontario know that there are moral ramifications to supporting the MS Society. He said that he knows other pro-life parents who are taking the initiative to speak to their local Catholic schools. “The problem lies not so much with the individual schools but with the board. They’re the ones who should know better.” Schadenberg said.
