TV Networks Trip Over One Another to Promote Gay Marriage

Emotional pitch seen as attempt to divert attention away from serious factual concerns about issue

TORONTO, Ontario, June 1, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In lieu of impending votes on homosexual ‘marriage’ in a number of countries, liberal networks are tripping over one another to prove to the world how much gay couples love one another.

The latest instance of this tactic of emotionalism, which conveniently ignores all of the most common arguments of reason against gay ‘marriage’, is the much publicized gay ‘wedding’ of American Lynn Warren and Alex Ali who came to Canada to get "married".

Warren and Ali were both contestants on Canada’s CTV network’s game show, The Amazing Race, in which a number of contestants compete against one another for a prize of $1 million. “Getting married is much more thrilling than Amazing Race because the prize at the end is true love, and a happy life ever after,” said Ali. The ceremony took place in Ottawa and was paid for by the radio station Hot 89.9.

Earlier this week Canada’s Global television announced its plans to air a ‘reality’ TV show called “My Fabulous Gay Wedding”. A Canadian Press article praised the show for its focus on proving how “normal” gay weddings are.

In the last year, public airwaves have been bombarded with similar shows, such as Will & Grace, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Queer as Folk and The L Word, which attempt to normalize gay relationships by highlighting the depth of their ‘love’.

Traditional marriage advocates are concerned that these shows are little more than propaganda for the gay-rights movement. An appeal to emotions, in order to divert attention away from serious factual considerations, is fundamental to successful propaganda.

The arguments of defenders of traditional marriage have never focused around gay love, but rather on the intrinsic spiritual, emotional and physical lack of complementarity between the two people in the relationship. As well there are serious health issues related to dangerous homosexual sexual practices and grave concerns about the welfare of children raised in these usually unstable and confusing relationships. Finally, there are valid concerns about removal of basic democratic freedoms from critics of homosexual behaviour (as opposed to the persons involved in this behaviour) by those who have made it plain they will not tolerate public expression of any such opinions.
