Battle Brewing as UN Millennium Development Summit Announces Plans to Include Access to Abortion as Millennium Development Goal
UNITED NATIONS, March 18, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The United Nations Millennium Development Summit, scheduled for September, is living up to UN status quo by adopting a radical feminist agenda, with organizers announcing plans to include universal abortion access as a Millennium Development Goal (MDG).
A Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) Friday Fax revealed that key figures involved in the planning of the Summit have backed the inclusion of access to abortion as a key MDG goal.
Chief of the Reproductive Health Branch of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), France Donnay, for example, said, “Reproductive health and rights are at the core of life for every human being” and “include...the means to avoid unwanted pregnancies.” In UNspeak, “reproductive health” is a standard euphemism for sterilization, artificial contraceptives and abortion. “Universal access to reproductive health, including family planning, is the starting point” for meeting MDGs Donnay claimed, adding that “sexual and reproductive health...should be included in universal health care” for all nations.
Both the Canadian and Norwegian Ambassadors supported the inclusion of so-called reproductive rights as MDGs. Norway’s ambassador, Johan Lovald said, “We support the proposal in the task force report on child mortality and maternal health to establish a specific target on access to sexual and reproductive health by 2015 through the universal health care system.”
